O jornal britânico “The Guardian” escolheu aqueles que para
o jornal são os 60 maiores talentos do futebol mundial nascidos em 1999, na
listagem estão 3 portugueses, Diogo Dalot do FCP, Domingos Quina
do West Ham e José Gomes do Benfica
Sobre o jovem avançado do Benfica o jornal escreveu o
seguinte;
“Born in Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony, Gomes
moved to Lisbon when he was 13. There he lived with his mother and although he
started training with the Sporting CP football school, he eventually signed for
Benfica. He made an immediate impact at the academy and has always scored more
than 20 goals a season. That stat is impressive enough but the fact that he
often did it playing with and against older players makes it even more so. He
made his first appearance for Portugal only a year after arriving in the
country and was the indisputable star of the Under-17 European Championship in
Azerbaijan in 2016. He got seven goals to become top scorer and picked up the
best player award. Fast and technically gifted, Gomes is a striker with killer
instinct and does not think twice when he has the opportunity to score. By
playing at Arouca in September Gomes became the third-youngest Benfica player
ever at the age of 17 years, five months and one day.”
